This butternut is a top choice for any short-season garden, producing fruits well before the onset of cold weather. The fruits are medium sized around 18cm (7") long, weighing 1.2kg (2.5lbs). Grow in fertile soil and give a lot of room.
Growing
Direct sow seeds 2cm (1") deep, or transplant in mid June when the soils are warm.
Can be started indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting in warm soil. Make sure plants are in the ground no later than June 15th.
Space plants 23cm (9") apart in rows 90cm (36") apart.
Seeds should sprout in 7-14 days
Matures in 88 days (from transplant)
Make successive plantings every 2-3 weeks until 3 months before the first fall frost date.
