Royal Burgundy

Royal Burgundy produce dark purple 13cm (5") pods that turn green when cooked. This high yielding bush is well suited to cool soils, it can reach 38-52cm (15-20") in height.

Growing

Direct sow between late-May to the end of June as long as the soils are warm. If the soil is not warm enough, the seeds will rot. Plant 2-5cm (1-2") deep, 5-8cm (2-3"). Seeds sprout in 8-16 days depending on conditions but can also be started indoors and carefully put out a few weeks later. For a continuous harvest, plant at 3 week intervals.

  • Optimal soil temperature is between 21-32°C
  • Space plants 15cm (6") apart
  • Matures in 60 days
  • Continually pick beans to ensure continued production
